To calculate your expanded metal, you need to understand the following terms.
When ordering expanded metal, it’s important to know how the material is measured and calculated.
- Mesh length (LWM) — the longest side of a single mesh opening in the expanded metal, measured along the long side from one node to the next, c/c (centre-to-centre).
- Mesh width (SWM) — the shortest side of a single mesh opening, measured between two adjacent nodes in the short direction.
- Step width (S) — the distance between two adjacent nodes in the long direction of the expanded metal.
- Material thickness (T) — the thickness of the original sheet before it is expanded.
Use our simple calculator to determine open area and weight per m². Enter the dimensions below for a rough calculation of the expanded metal’s open area and weight.
